Frequently Asked Questions

What is Lolek Theatre Company?

Lolek Theatre Company is a New Evangelization opportunity for young Catholics to deepen their faith and community while evangelizing truth, beauty, and goodness through excellence.

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”  – Philippians 4:8

Lolek was the childhood nickname of St. John Paul II. Young Lolek loved theatre and, prior to recognizing his call to the priesthood, intended to be a professional actor. He participated in plays that used art as a “cultural resistance” to the problematic ideals that were sweeping his country. Today, we have a similar need to strengthen our understanding of that which is true, good, and beautiful. And so, we ask our namesake St. Pope John Paul II, under his youthful nickname, Lolek, to intercede for us in the success of our mission.

How will auditions work?

Once you register and pay your fees, you are in the show! Auditions are a low-pressure and fun way for you to get to know your directors and cast mates. During auditions, you will have the opportunity to sing a selection of your choice (that you’ll specify on the audition form), and everyone will learn some basic choreography together. If you feel nervous, that’s ok! We’re a team and we’ll help you shine. Show up with a good attitude ready to learn and have fun, and you’ll do great!

Everyone will participate on the first day of auditions. Some people might be asked to come back the second day to spend a bit more time with the directors.

What if I want to participate behind the scenes but I don’t want to be part of the cast?

Some limited opportunities are available for teens to join the crew and participate in stagecraft. Reach out to to discuss.

What happens during rehearsals?

Each week, we will send out a communication about which students need to attend rehearsal that weekend. Depending on the individual student’s age, abilities, and role in the show, they may need to attend all rehearsals or only some rehearsals. Students will be called to rehearsals to work through scenes that they are in or to work on stagecraft (e.g. costumes, props, marketing, etc.). We believe that participating in all aspects of putting on the show is beneficial to the students and contributes to a sense of leadership, ownership, and community. Expect that, as the performance date nears, we will begin running through the show and will therefore begin calling the entire cast to every rehearsal.

What if I can’t make it to every rehearsal?

That’s ok *IF* you let us know prior to auditions. Prior to auditions, you will fill out an audition form that includes the option to list any conflicts. Conflicts noted on that form will be excused, but will be considered during casting. You’ll still be expected to catch up on anything you miss. Conflicts that come up after casting are unexcused and could result in casting changes.

What show will be performed?

Stay tuned for the exciting show announcement for our May 2024 musical coming very soon! But, don’t wait to register or you’ll miss the early bird registration discount!

Are parents required to help?

We will ask that each family provide an adult volunteer to assist at one performance. We do not otherwise require specific volunteer tasks or hours. We are, however, an entirely volunteer-led group and there are many opportunities to contribute to the success of the production. We understand that each family has different levels of availability to help, so we ask that each family generously consider the options that are the best fit for them. And if there’s something that you want to see happen, consider volunteering to do it! Reach out to to discuss further.
